Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial championship since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from spring of 2023.

Success also signifies the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," stated ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his last six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had led commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete positively, reinforced by an better service.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial tour victory, took control to push for a decider.

The opponent saved 4 initial opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
